How to Fix Quicken Program Errors
Quicken Program Errors
Quicken is one of the leading financial management tools in existence today. Unfortunately, when Quicken encounters program errors, you may be locked out of the software and unable to view your banking information until you manage to repair the program. Quicken program errors range from being simply annoying to debilitating. If the error is related to a lack of system resources, a quick reboot may be all that’s required. However, if the error is so bad that Quicken refuses to open, then you won’t be able to access your financial records, pay your bills, and manage your finances. In this case, you need a quick Quicken program errors fix!

Determining the Source of the Program Error
As with troubleshooting any computer error, finding the source of the problem can lead to the solution. Have you recently installed or uninstalled a new program or piece of hardware? If so, does your system have a system restore point just prior to the installation? Is the Quicken program error intermittent? Does the error occur consistently when another factor is involved? For example, does Quicken crash every time you try to print?
Once you understand the source of the error, you can work on fixing it. For example, if you think a newly installed program has overwritten shared DLL files, rolling back to the system to the earlier restore point could very well solve the program error. Likewise, if Quicken only generates errors when the computer’s running multiple programs, then you may have a RAM issue to address. Before you do anything and if you can launch Quicken, do so and make a backup of your data in case you will later reinstall the program.
Intuit releases updates to Quicken regularly and posts links to these updates on its Support website. Updates can often solve program errors that have to do with the programming of the Quicken software. Make sure to update Quicken before doing any of the more drastic steps such as uninstalling and reinstalling the program because it’s possible that the update will fix your Quicken program errors.
Uninstalling and Reinstalling Quicken
A fresh installation of Quicken may solve underlying program errors, especially if program files have been damaged or lost after a system crash, virus attack, or unexpected shutdown. Before uninstalling the software, make a backup of your data if possible. Quicken does leave your data files on the computer during the uninstall process, so if you cannot open Quicken to make a backup, you will later be able to open your data files with the fresh installation.
Use the Add and Remove Programs (or Programs and Features if you have Windows Vista) tool to uninstall your copy of Quicken. Intuit also offers a free QcleanUI tool download on its Web site which completely uninstalls Quicken.
If you purchased Quicken on a disc, reinstall the program from the disc. If you downloaded Quicken online, you will need to log into your Quicken account and redownload the installation file. Intuit programs purchased online can be downloaded for up to three years after the initial purchase.
The fresh installation should then be updated with the latest updates from Intuit as discussed above. Once reinstalled and updated, you should be able to launch Quicken and work with your existing data files once again without the Quicken program errors.
